Our client Thai Union Group Europe, a global FMCG company with multiple affiliates across EMEA, is a subsidiary of Thai Union Ltd., a global seafood business with more than 35,000 employees worldwide and its headquarter located in Bangkok. The company owns some of the world’s largest seafood brands – Petite Navire, Parmentier, Mareblu, John West, King Oscar are well known examples, but also has private label capabilities.
Besides the sustainability strategy SeaChange 2030, innovation is one of the Group’s major strategic priorities to achieve growth ambitions.
To accelerate innovation in Europe, Thai Union Europe has recently launched a state-of-the-art Innovation Hub in Wageningen, The Netherlands. The hub drives development for the Ambient Seafood business, focusing on consumer-driven projects, crossmarket strategies, and End2End project management, following the “Fewer, Bigger, Better” principle. The team consists of around 15 people working on product development, consumer science, nutrition, project management, and packaging development.
The Innovation Hub works closely with the Global Innovation Centre based in Bangkok, Thailand. To further strengthen the packaging team Thai Union Europe is searching for a proactive and passionate Packaging Development Value Engineer.
A few of your tasks:
- You will lead the packaging development in projects (End2End from ideation to operational implementation) with focus on complex value engineering projects
- You will participate in ideation sessions, build the packaging development plan and planning, work closely with project teams (Marketing, R&D, operations, procurement, Quality, Sustainability, Global Innovation Centre) and suppliers, you will build the packaging brief, develop concepts, do feasibility assessments and validation testing.
- You will prepare project proposals for new packaging projects to deliver sustainability commitments and also harmonisation and cost-savings.
- You will be end responsible for the validation of packaging, and you will work closely with production, quality and logistics.
- You will coach the packaging junior and intern working on smaller value engineering projects and optionally will become their line manager over time
- You will participate in the packaging roadmap and strategy.
- You will constantly be on “technology watch”- you will follow trends, developments and innovations and inform your colleagues about it.
- You will build a strong network with our key suppliers, mutually find opportunities for optimizing packaging portfolio.
What is your background?
- Bachelor or Master degree in Packaging Technology/Engineering or an equivalent
- 3-5 years+ experience in packaging engineering or packaging development
- Working experience in the food industry is preferable
- Interest in sustainability: defining solutions, implementing packaging projects.
- Experience in multi-material packaging development, preferably with metal, flexibles and Aluminium material
- Good verbal and written communication skills, English is required, French would be an asset
